Stepping Stones

When we are in troubled waters,
It is the stepping stones we must find
To move on and discover the paths
That lead us to passages divine
Your birth wasn't a beginning
To this journey of life
and neither will death be the end, coz
It is salvation that dissolves all strife

Happiness

One could go to the ends of the world
In pursuit of mere moments of happiness,
It lies in the recesses of his heart all along,
But he chooses to ignore it nevertheless.

When his shoes are worn and feet weary
He sometimes realizes he’s erred
He returns home, in peace
But the ignorant move on, undeterred.

In ignorance we live,
And in ignorance we die
In order to find what we already posses
We set out, and bid it goodbye

Little Things

Little, petty-looking things
That actually mean so much
Happen once in a while
And leave us completely touched

Little things we tend to neglect
In the hurry consuming our lives
Little things, we tend to forget
Are the ones that bring us smiles

In the grandeur of our days
We forget the hidden joys
Which quietly come and pass away
Like never-played-with toys

And at the end of it all
We look back and wonder
What it was we missed

Where we made that blunder

But the little things are forgotten
And the empty feeling stays
If only we embraced the little things
We'd brighten all our days

Clouded Skies

As we tread along unknown paths,
Hoping for clear skies..
Gathering the flowers of experience
From the sidewalks of our life
We shall all, sooner or later
Come one day to realise
That the best lessons are only learnt
When we brave thunders and clouded skies

Mirage

I am an oasis,
But it's not me that you see,
What you see is a mirage,
Try and find me.

With a few palms for company,
Isolated I stand
With few souls in sight,
Amidst vast stretches of sand.

Alone I rest,
Just like a mirror,
Reflecting everything above me,
Reflecting forever.

I've seen you run,
After every mirage you see.
Run till you are too tired,
Too tired to see me.

If only you had
Raised your head and seen,
You would have escaped suffering,
Alive you would have been.

Today I see you again,
After so many years,
In a different body, new face,
And I am filled with fears.

Again I see you run,
After every mirage you find,
Remember, my dear friend,
The desert is very unkind.

I am an oasis,
But it's not me that you see,
That is just a mirage,
Don't run, try to find me.

Passing Blues

There was a time,
When the sun shone so bright
The streams sparkled
With joy and delight

The winds blew past
So gentle and free
And the flowers,
They danced with glee.

But now it feels so different
Everything has changed
The sun seems to hide
Behind the clouds of pain

This has happened before,
Times when I lost all hope..
Gave up all faith
And lost the will to cope.

Pillars of support just fell
And the Gods shied away
The darkness just seemed to grow
With no sign of day

And then, suddenly
It all started to fade
Every other moment
Seemed a brighter shade

Slowly it all changed
Until it was just the same
Just like it had been, before
Before the clouds came.

Now when I open
The gates of my memory
On its rusty creaking hinges,
It all comes back to me

This too shall pass,
It was meant to come and go
After so many lessons learnt,
I don't believe, I just know

The sun never stopped shining,
The wind always ruled the skies
The fault - it lay with me
For I had closed my eyes

I shall open them now,
I just have to try
Because I'm so tired of tears
No more shall I cry.

I'll watch the sun rise,
And I'll feel the wind's caress
Oh tell me now, God
Am I not blessed?

Meet my Best Friend

He jumps in every morning,
Wakes me up with a kiss!
Now that is one opportunity
I never like to miss.

They are precious to me, those moments,
Which we spend together every morning,
Then he jumps out the window quickly,
Just before my mom comes in.

When I begin my walk to school,
I meet him, once again
And then we walk arm in arm,
Through broad and narrow lanes.

He's always there for me,
Whether I'm in health, or in pain.
Never once did he forget me,
Bright sunshine, or pouring rain.

There, he comes again,
Gently caressing my face,
I begin to walk faster,
So I can keep up with his pace.

He'll always be immortal,
Though I will never be.
He is the Wind, or the Breeze,
And he certainly belongs to me.

Lessons Of Life

I watch quietly, my friend,
As her tears she tries to control,
I try to look away, but
This sight troubles my soul.

I wonder why we are born,
To experience everlasting unhappiness,
Along with deceit, jealousy and lies?
Can't we ever get out of this mess?

Poverty, suffering, pain,
Incessantly swallow up our lives,
Bed of roses? No way!
Life is a bed of knives.

The same sharp knives which
Cut right through me,
Every time I look at my friend
And her pitiable plight I see.

I can't see you cry, my friend!
Nor can I bear your sorrow!
All of your misery and remorse,
If only I could borrow,

I would willingly to you
All my happiness lend.
If only I could be
More than just a friend.

She gets up and washes her face,
And looks at me, trying to smile.
"I shall not let anything upset me,
Like I was, all this while."

I try to smile at her now, gratefully,
Finally, she has helped me find out.
Conquering obstacles, crossing barriers,
Yes, that is what life's all about.

Have you ever..?

Have you ever wondered,
What's the purpose of your life?
It makes you sit back and explore
The reasons for joys and strife.

Have you ever heard silence speak?
It speaks much louder than words.
It spoke to you so many times...
If only you had heard.

Have you ever let emptiness
Come and fill you in?
You feel so satisfied and happy,
And so complete within.

Have you ever tried
To search for joy in sorrow?
You feel so protected, and
Hope for a better tomorrow.

Have you ever realised
How hard it is, to find silence
In this world full of noise,
Torture and violence?

Have you ever thought-

To find emptiness is so difficult,
When every person is out
To make his presence felt?
Have you ever imagined
How hard it is to smile
When you're surrounded by pity
And sympathy all the while?

When will you try to find
Silence in every word?
When will you search for
Healing in every hurt?

When will you discover
A smile in every tear?
When will you try to find
Courage in every fear?

When will you realise
That there is a heavy price to pay
For every wrong deed you do,
For every wrong word you say?
Time is running out,

And you don't have much to live.
Learn to take a little less,
Learn a little more to give.
Learn to love o little more

And hate a little less,
And then sit back and watch
As life sorts out its mess.
Every cloud has a silver lining

Every night precedes a day
Look at the brighter side of life
And your tears will dry away
Life will flow like a song

And you'll learn to smile again
You'll rediscover joy and peace,
And you'll forget the word
the word called pain.

My 'Children's Day'

I walked down the street happily,
This day was after all ours,
When I spotted a little girl crying,
Suffering hunger, for no fault of hers.

I stood there, shocked,
As the smile soon went off my face.
My friends were rejoicing, celebrating,
And there was gloom all over this place.

I knew not how to react,
To be happy anyway, or to feel sad.
Some of us were wearing costly attires,
But some were barely clad.

My heart sinks deeper,
When those poor children I see,
Who spend their days slogging,
When they should be jumping with glee.

I wipe a tear and then decide,
These kids too, deserve some joys.
I pull out some of my clothes and toys,
And give them to those girls and boys.

When they smile, and their faces glow,
My day is made, yes, I know.
