NEWS Release 18 July 2007

ADA Starts new Career Guidance:

Whether you're a high school or college student, college advisor or a parent with a child who's interested in becoming a dentist, you'll find a wealth of useful information on dental careers at ADA.org.

The ADA recently launched a new Web resource with comprehensive career information for those thinking about becoming a dentist, dental assistant, dental hygienist or dental laboratory technician.

At www.ada.org/goto/careers, you'll find resources such as "10 Great Reasons To Be A Dentist," research topics that make dentistry an exciting career for the 21st century, the "College Freshman-Senior Timeline" (pertaining to the timing of applying to dental school), information on diversifying the profession and financing dental education and more. Read "A Day in the Life" testimonials where dental students, practicing dentists and dental school professors talk about what goes on during a typical day.

Fluoride Supplements Can Damage teeth:

Fluoride supplements put children six and under at significant risk of permanently discolored teeth, according to a review of studies recently posted on the American Dental Association's (ADA) website in their new section, "evidence-based dentistry," for dentists and their patients. New Way To Diagnose Caries

The OCT Dental Imaging System(TM)
OCT is the first modality in dentistry capable of imaging both “hard” tissue (teeth) and “soft” tissue (gums) in the mouth at a very high resolution.  Using the hand-held scanner, the operator captures cross-sectional images, or tomographic slices, at up to 3 mm deep into dental tissue.  These cross-sectional images are then displayed individually in real-time or can be stacked in the computer to form tomograms or 3-dimensional images. To see a video demo go to this link http://www.lantislaser.com/oct_dentistry.asp
