Dentist charged with sexual assault in UK
Sexual posturing with patient in Dental Chair, has been an historical issue/debate. Roger Marcus Frazer Klein, who practices in Knutsford, Cheshire, was disciplined by the General Dental Council (GDC) on August 21, after he was charged with the assault.
The GDC slapped 13 conditions on him for a period of 18 months following August's hearing.
As well as being unable to treat women without a chaperone – unless it is a life-threatening emergency – 41-year-old Mr Klein must keep a log of every consultation he has with a female patient, which must be signed by a chaperone.
He cannot be at his Knutsford dental surgery, Regent Cosmetic Dental Practice, outside of practice hours (except in an emergency), or with fewer than two colleagues there.
Mr Klein, from Ladyacre Close in Lymm, also cannot be alone with any female member of staff at the practice.MORE
Two Abu Dhabi Dental Clinics Accused of Malpractices
The National Health Insurance Company or Daman has taken action against two dental clinics for overcharging and indulging in malpractices.
Daman Chairman Khaled Abdulla Al Qubaisi said that immediate action was taken against clinics once the cases were discovered. He added that under no circumstances will any form of abuse or fraud be tolerated by Daman.
“Any provider found committing any form of abuse or fraud will be dealt with immediately through all necessary legal actions,” he pointed out. Full NEWS
Mobile dental vans flagged off in Delhi by Sheila Dikshit
Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Saturday stressed the need for making basic oral care facilities accessible to every individual since oral health is an important and crucial part of one’s overall health and wellness. She was speaking after flagging off mobile dental vans on the occasion of World Oral Health Day.
The mobile dental vans were flagged off as part of Oral Health Month 2009, a nationwide oral health awareness campaign organised by the Indian Dental Association and Colgate-Palmolive (India) Limited. As part of the program, free dental check-ups were also conducted for children from Pratham, a community based organisation that promotes education of under-privileged children in 24 States in India. Health Ministry recommends to scrap Medical Council and Dental Council of India
The Health Ministry had proposed to scrap the Medical Council of India (MCI) and Dental
Council of India (DCI), citing alleged corruption in these regulatory bodies.
The proposal was sent to the Prime Minister's Office for listing it before the Cabinet so that a necessary amendment could be moved in the next session of Parliament.
The PMO, however, rejected the proposal, saying there was no surety that the new body replacing MCI and DCI would not develop shortcomings as of the present regulators, an official said. MORE

Kerala hikes Salary- for teachers of government medical, dental, nursing and pharmacy colleges
An official spokesman of the Health Department said the non-practising allowance of medical college teachers would go up by about 25 per cent and patient care allowance by 15 per cent. A medical college professor would now get salary exceeding Rs.85,000 while associate professors would earn more than Rs.77,000 a month. The salary of assistant professors would exceed Rs.50,000.
