Desires- The Ultimate Trap

Thoughts generate desires and then thinking about methods to fulfil them, and then act accordingly as per your best judegement. Thoughts are energy, some of today’s leading scientists in areas of physics, biology, psychology and many other fields are starting to recognize the importance of thought energy. How else could you explain when you are about to dial friends/relative and same moment his/her call comes even before you finish dialling.

When strong thoughts arise, being energy it follows Newtons third law (every action creates equal and opposite reaction), this naturally creates obstacles in your path, you may eventually overcome them by persistance, but you will be so drained that outcome won't be worth it.

Also an important facuty in humans is called Viveka (sense of discrimination) it helps us to decide between good/bad, right/wrong etc, strong desire corrupts this faculty and alters your capability of making right choice. So you land up making wrong decisions/choices.

Man lives under the illusion that happiness is obtained by fulfillment of desires. But this kind of happiness is only transient and does not last very long. Reason is that for a very brief moment mind becomes still after fulfilment of desire and you experience your real self for a very short time. Very soon a new desire takes over and cycle starts again all over.

“He soon felt that the fulfillment of his desires gave him only one grain of the mountain of happiness he had expected. This fulfillment showed him the eternal error men make in imagining that their happiness depends on the realization of their desires.”
Leo Tolstoy, Anna Karenina

Bible, "He that would keep his life will lose it." What does it mean? It implies that he who will crave, yearn and wish, will not have it.

Attachment to desire, not desire itself, is the underlying cause of practically all of our pain and suffering, if you don't care either way, then it will not matter.

Source of all happiness is only ONE, your SOUL, Yoga Vasishtha, puts it this way: “This Self is neither far nor near; it is not inaccessible nor is it in distant places: It is what in oneself appears to be the experience of bliss and is therefore realized in oneself.” In other words, anytime you experience profound happiness or bliss in your life, you are actually experiencing your soul. You may not know it, but the joy you are feeling is coming from you. It is you. The key is to learn to be able to access it whenever you want. This is where the practice of meditation comes in. “A human being is born to dive deep into the stream of life, find the hidden treasure, and attain eternal fulfillment.”
